- Biographical or historical data
- William Henry Harrison Terrell was born November 13, 1827 to John and Sally (Moore) Terrell, in Henry County, Kentucky. The following year, the family moved to Indiana. On November 19, 1850, William married Sarah Eliza Church, who was two years his junior. They had two children, Emma M., who was 27 in the 1880 census, and George Fisher, who was 25 and working as a postal clerk in 1880. The census also records Emma A. Terrell, age 24, daughter-in-law of W. H. Terrell, and Gertrude E. Terrell, age 2, granddaughter. During the U.S. Civil War, Terrell was the adjutant general of Indiana and served as Governor Oliver P. Morton's secretary. From 1866 to 1869, Terrell published the multi-volume history, Indiana in the War of the Rebellion. He died on May 16, 1884, and was buried at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana.
