- Biographical or historical data
- Eli H. Clampitt was born in 1836 to Ezekiel and Ruth Clampitt in Indiana. He was one of seven children. He served as a private in the Civil War, enlisting in Company H, Indiana 29th Infantry Regiment on October 7, 1861, He was a private and worked as a wagoner. He was mustered out on December 2, 1865 in Marietta, Georgia. He married Martha A. Williams on December 23, 1869 in Boone County, Indiana. They had three children, including Eli E., who was killed in the Spanish-American War. Eli H. died September 16, 1873 in Kansas, on his way to finding a new home for his family in Indian Territory. He died at the home of a doctor, who wrote to a friend of his in Boone County, Indiana. He is buried in Kansas."Clampitt, Eli ". U.S., Civil War Soldiers, 1861-1865.
