- The collection contains publications of the Hoosier Salon Patrons Association including histories and reports of the Association and programs from the annual Hoosier Salon exhibits
- Biographical or historical data
- The Hoosier Salon Patrons Association grew out of the work of Mrs. Herbert Griffiths, President of the Daughters of Indiana, and John T. McCutcheon, President of the Indiana Society of Chicago. In May 1924, they began planning an exhibition of Indiana artists to be held in Chicago. After two successful exhibits, it was decided that the annual events should be continued. In order to support the project, the Daughters of Indiana created the Hoosier Salon Patrons Association in 1926. In 1928, the Association opened the Hoosier Gallery. Located at 211 West Wacker Drive in Chicago, the gallery was open year-round. In addition to the annual Salon and Hoosier Gallery, the Association also established a circulating art plan and sent Hoosier exhibitions across the Midwest. In 1941, the Association moved its operations to Indianapolis and established itself in the William H. Block & Co. building. A gallery and showroom opened in the Hilton Hotel on October 19, 1970. The Association's headquarters remained in the Block Building (also known as the State Life Building and the Thomas Building) until 1973 when it was completely destroyed by fire. The Association now has galleries in Broad Ripple and New Harmony, Indiana. The annual Hoosier Salon exhibits are currently held at the Indiana State Museum and have been since 1990.
