- This collection includes correspondence and documents ranging from 1860 to 1947 that Wylie J. Daniels received from government agencies, historical societies, libraries, relatives and others in response to his requests for information regarding his family history. The collection includes the last will and testament of Ruth M Paull (December 20, 1866); a typewritten copy of a 1909 application for membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution by Abbie Bruce Markee, a descendent of Ephraim Warren; certificates from the Indiana Adjutant General regarding the Civil War service of Napoleon Henry Daniels (July 10, 1936); a copy of the Johnston Families Magazine (June 1945); a copy of the report, "The Name and Family of Daniel(s)" compiled by the Media Research Bureau (undated); and other documents regarding descendants of the Daniels family

- Wylie J. Daniels was a lifelong resident of Indianapolis. Born April 23, 1888, he was the son of Edward and Virginia (Johnston) Daniels. He graduated from Wabash College in 1910 and from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1913. On June 10, 1925, he married Margaret Speed of Louisville, Kentucky. He was a mechanical engineer and later the secretary-treasurer for the Indianapolis Union (Belt) Railroad and retired in 1943 after 21 years of service. He was also the author of The Village at the End of the road: A Chapter in Early Indiana Railroad History , a history of the first railroad in Indiana that ran from Madison to Indianapolis (1938). During the late 1930s and 1940s, he conducted research and compiled information regarding the history of the Daniels family. Mr. Daniels passed away at the age of 63 on October 3, 1951.
