(page 1). She includes resources in the Indiana State Library, Indiana Historical Society Library, Lilly Library at Indiana University, Indiana State Archives, as well as government documents, newspapers, county and city histories, and other secondary sources. Beginning on page 24, Emma Lou lists publications based on topics, such as: political history (p. 24-28); Civil War (p. 28-33); economic history (p. 33-38); railroads and transportation (p. 38-40); population changes (p. 40-41); and other subjects. Biographical or historical data: Emma Lou Thornbrough (1913-1994) was a teacher, scholar, and author. She graduated from Shortridge High School, Butler University, and the University of Michigan. From 1946-1983, Dr. Thornbrough was professor of history at Butler University. She was an authority on African-American history, as well as the history of Indiana in the Civil War. On January 22, 1995, Butler University held "A Celebration of the life of Emma Lou Thornbrough" in Robertson Hall with tributes from five people.
