- Mrs. George W. Jaqua was born Evelyn [Evalyn] Hageman on May 15, 1898 in Muncie, Indiana to Maurice L. and Carrie Dill Hageman. She was an only child. She was graduated from Ward-Belmont [School for Women] in Nashville, Tennessee and received a teacher's diploma from a school of expression in Boston, Massachusettes. Immediately upon graduation from the school in Boston, during World War I, she entered wartime work, first as Captain of the Muncie, Indiana, Red Cross Canteen Service. She married George Wesley Jaqua in Delaware County, Indiana on October 15, 1919. They had three children and lived in Winchester, Indiana. She was an active member of the Indiana Federation of Women's Clubs, serving as president from 1939-1941 and on many committees of that and other clubs. She was the chairman and director of the Women's Division, Indiana State Defense Council, during World War II, a director of United War Funds, Inc., director, Women's Division, Indiana Committee, National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis; trustee Hanover College and vice president of the Jaqua Company, Winchester, Indiana. She was a speaker in great demand and traveled world-wide. She died on Aug. 12, 1958 in Brevard, North Carolina.History of Ward-Belmont.
