Biographical or historical data
General William T. Spicely, was born January 25, 1823 to Samuel and Elizabeth (Busick) Spicely in North Carolina. On September 7, 1847 he married Eliza B. Williamson, and on January 9, 1873 he married Maria Jane Overman, and began his career as an attorney in Orleans, Indiana. Spicely served as a Second Lieutenant in the 2nd Regiment of the Indiana Volunteer Infantry in the Mexican War. He was mustered in on June 13, 1846 as a Second Lieutenant, at New Albany, Indiana, and mustered out on June 23, 1847, as a Captain, at New Orleans, Louisiana. Spicely later served in the Civil War, mustered in as a Captain in the 2nd Indiana Regiment on July 31, 1861 and mustered out on July 21, 1865 as Brevet Brigadier General. Mary Jane Worrell was born on Indiana in December 1826, daughter of Jane Worrell. Mary Jane married school teacher Isaac N. Albertson in Orange County, Indiana on November 19, 1847, and had four children. When Isaac died in 1855, Mary Jane married Jefferson Nugent, with whom she had two children.
