Biographical or historical data
William Henry Matthew was born December 21, 1871 in England. He emigrated to the United States in 1889 and married Edna Bertha Toby in Pulaski County, Indiana on October 4, 1893. They lived in Culver and Plymouth Indiana, then moved to Gary, Indiana in 1908 and had at least four children: Rose, Etta, J. Robert, and W. Burleigh. Both their sons became doctors.Matthew was an attorney, representing the Indiana Anti-Saloon League for a time, a Democratic leader and a member of the Indiana historical research committee. He was also a notable collector of Indiana legal items. He died February 13 [18], 1931 following surgery and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Plymouth. His wife Edna Matthew died February 4, 1935.
