- Biographical or historical data
- Artist, educator, and poet Wilhelmina Seegmiller was born Decemeber 6, 1866 in Fairview, Ontario, Canada. After attending public school in Fairview, she studied art in Toronto and at the Pratt Art Institute in Brooklyn. Seegmiller also completed her teaching certification in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Beginning in 1895, she served as the director of Art Instruction in the Indianapolis Public Schools for 18 years. Her programs were designed to give students an appreciation of art and were admired and considered innovative by her peers. Seegmiller was also a prolific writer, producing numerous books on art and art instruction as well as poetry and short plays. She died in Indianapolis, May 24, 1913 due to complications following surgery.
