- The collection consists principally of Bearss' receipts, invoices, land documents, and account books relating to his business and land interests in Peru, Indiana. Also included are account books for his transactions with the Miami Indians (1838 - 1842), his Peru general store (1835 - 1845), and Peru sawmill (1851 - 1853). The collection also contains a letterbook containing copies of his letters relating to his claims against the Indiana and other business matters, correspondence (business and family), receipts, invoices, and business accounts

- Biographical or historical data
- Daniel Bearss, born 1809, was a storekeeper, farmer, and businessman in Peru, Miami County Indiana (1834 - 1884). Bearss was a member of the Whig and Republican parties, elected to the Indiana House of Representatives (1841 - 1848) and Indiana Senate (1855 - 1857, 1861 - 1863, and 1875 - 1877). Bearss also owned extensive real estate in the Peru area, and was the director of the Indianapolis, Peru, and Chicago Railroad Company. Daniel Bearss died in 1884.
