  • The Indiana Lincoln Memorial Association was organized on June 25, 1922. The association's goal was to build a memorial in Indiana to recognize the time President Abraham Lincoln lived in the Hoosier state during his youth. The work of the volunteer association resulted in the Indiana House of Representatives passing a bill creating a Lincoln Memorial Commission. The 9 members of the commission were appointed by the governor and $5000.00 was appropriated to buy land surrounding the site where Lincoln's family cabin was located at Lincoln City, Spencer County, Indiana.
