This collection includes three land deeds: a 1849 deed pertaining to Jefferson County, a 1850 deed pertaining to Johnson County, and a deed from 1853. The collection also includes two tintypes of John Brooker ranging from 1857-1913
Biographical or historical data
John Brooker (or Bruker) was born in Wittenburg, Germany on February 19, 1817 and immigrated to the United States in 1833. Some time prior to 1857, he moved with his wife, Josephine, to Crawfordsville, Indiana where he worked as a butcher. Brooker had six children: Julia, John, Martin, Paulina, Josephine, and Minnie. By 1900, Brooker and his wife had moved to Chicago, Illinois. He died on March 21, 1913 in Chicago and is buried at Oak Woods Cemetery. Sources: 1860 United States Census (population schedule).
