Biographical or historical data
John Robert "Bob" Aleksa was born April 5, 1933 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the son of John Aleksa ([Janos Aleksza] a violinmaker, born in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, in 1909, emigrating to the United States when he was 11) and Margaret Baker (born in Spencer, Indiana in 1910), a descendant of the Revolutionary War veteran John McCormick and a relative of Cyrus Hall McCormick, inventor of the reaping machine. John was the oldest of three sons, including James Donald and Dennis Lee.John Aleksa attended Lawrence Central High School, from which he was graduated in 1952. He served in the military, and had a tour of duty in Libya from 1954-1955. Aleksa lived in Battle Creek, Michigan from 1962-1965.
