- Biographical or historical data
- James Sheil was born in Ireland in May, 1820 to Michael and Mary Ryan Shiel. His two brothers and three sisters were also born in Ireland, where his mother died in 1829. James Sheil immigrated to the United States, moving to Indiana where he kept general stores in Sheilville (renamed Buena Vista in 1854, then Atlanta in 1855). Sheil acted as agent for his father and others in business transactions. He died on May 5, 1907, at the age of 87, in Jackson Township, Hamilton County, Indiana.
