Biographical or historical data
James Flynn Stutesman was born July 19, 1860 in Peru, Indiana. He graduated from Wabash College in 1884. He married Jessie Emilie Herron in 1910. Stutesman was chiefly a lawyer but also worked as a clerk, realtor, and banker. He was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in 1885, 1901, and 1903. He served as the Assistant Chief of U.S. Geodetic Survey for Indiana in 1884 and 1885. He was an examiner for the U.S. Department of Justice (1891-1893) and the U.S. Minister to Bolivia in 1908-1910. He became the U.S. Commissioner General to Central America and West Indies for the Panama-Pacific Exposition in 1915 and the Speaker for the U.S. Fuel Administration in 1917.
