Force and Eliza (Day) Force February 16, 1860 near Hayden in Jennings County, Indiana. To this union were born thirteen children. Jacob enlisted for service on September 18, 1861 at Hardinsburg, Indiana to Company C, 37th Indiana Infantry. His service during the Civil War took him from Indiana through Kentucky and Tennessee to Athens, Alabama. He reenlisted February 29, 1864. After a thirty day furlough at home he went to Georgia where he was wounded at Pumpkin Vine Creek. He was discharged November 17, 1864 at the rank of Corporal and set home on to Indiana on foot. In the spring of 1865 Jacob, his wife Emeline and other family members moved by train to Eddyville, Iowa and from there by wagon to Cedar Township, Lucas County, Iowa. It was here that he worked as a carpenter and built several homes in the area. Jacob died October 15, 1914 and Emeline died November 19, 1934.
