- This collection contains Hugh Hanna's 54-page manuscript entitled "The Fight for a True Monetary System." There is also a presentation folder imprinted: Chamber of Commerce of the State of New York, Hugh H. Hanna, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Indianapolis Monetary Convention, 1897-1900." There are several documents pretaining to the 142nd annual banquet of the New York Chamber of Commerce, which honored Hanna and several other public figures including John Bigelow, Whitelaw Reid, Joseph Choate, Robert E. Peary, Thomas A. Edison, Seth Low, Alexander E. Orr, Horace Porter, and Theodore Roosevelt. The collection also includes a scrapbook of condolence letters, notes and notices of Hanna's death, created by his wife Anna Sharpe Hanna

- Biographical or historical data
- Hugh Henry Hanna was born September 19, 1848, to J. S. and Hetty A. Hanna, in Lafayette, Indiana. Hanna married Anna Sharpe on October 22, 1873 and they had three children: Hugh (1876-1950), Elizabeth (1882-1886), and Katharine (1889-1892). They moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1880.Hanna started his business career at his father's bank in Lafayette. He later studied abroad at the University of Berlin in Germany, as well as in the United States at Wabash College. Hanna worked at the company Atlas Engine Works upon moving to Indianapolis and became its owner and president in 1895. He later retired in 1902. Hanna also served as chairman of the Executive Committee of the Indianapolis Monetary Convention during 1897-1900, which had a large influence on the campaign for "honest money." He succeeded in securing the adoption of the gold standard in 1900 and received an appointment to chairman of a commission on the gold standard and foreign policy from U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt in 1908.Hanna died at his home at 1512 North Pennsylvania Street, Indianapolis, Indiana on October 31, 1920, and was buried at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.
