This collection contains photocopies of Harry E. Lewis's family documents and includes the Society of Friends marriage certificate of Samuel Cox and Lydia Kenworthy (1837/11/02); a Sons of Temperance certificate of membership of Thomas Brooks (1848/05/29); certificates from the Methodist Episcopal Church appointing Thomas Brooks a deacon (1851/10/12) and an elder (1855/09/16); Madison Yount's discharge paper from Company H, Indiana 22nd Regiment (1864/08/15); records of the marriage of James Madison Yount and Indiana Brooks (1872/10/20) and the births of their children from a family Bible (1873-1888); and a marriage license for Thomas J. Lewis and Harriet H. Cummings (1878/12/05). The collection also includes an undated poem, possibly written by Lydia Kenworthy Cox Booher, regarding the author's potential death
Biographical or historical data
Harry E. Lewis was born December 12, 1912 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Newton E. (1886-1972) and Edna Yount Lewis (1888-1970). His father was the son of Thomas J. (1844-?) and Harriet Lewis (1846-1929) and his mother was the daughter of Madison (1837-1901) and Indiana Yount (1857-1944). Indiana was the daughter of Rev. Thomas Brooks (1813-1890).
