Biographical or historical data
Harold C. Feightner was born on December 6, 1892 to Reuben and Mary Feightner in Hungtington County, Indiana. Harold graduated from Union Township High School in 1911. While in high school, Feightner spent two three month terms at Valpraiso University in 1909 and 1910. After graduating high school, he became a writer for the Hungtinton Press, then worked as a police reporter in Chicago in 1912. He also wrote articles for multiple newspapers nationwide, including the New York Times, during the height of Ku Klux Klan activity in Indianaplis. In 1919 Feightner married Huntington school teacher, Grace Ream. Feightner spent two years in the Indiana National Guard. He was discharged as a second lietenant after the armistice in 1918. After his military service, Feightner joined the Indianapolis star, starting at the copy desk then moving to city hall reporter. He worked briefly as publicity director for the Democratic party before becoming editor of the Indiana Daily Times the (later Indianapolis Times), then managing editor until the newspaper was purchased by Scripps-Howard. From 1922 to 1934 he worked as a legislative and political reporter for the Indianapolis News, and finally as executive director of the Indiana Brewers Association until his retirement in 1967.During his time as executive director, Feightner wrote two histories, "Preachers, Politics and Prohibition" and "Politics, Prohibition and Reapeal in Indiana." Feightner died on August 13, 1969.
