Biographical or historical data
Frank Marshall Moorman was born in Covington, Indiana, on July 30, 1894, the only son of Robert R. and Anna (Yount) Moorman. He attended Purdue University (IN), graduating in 1918 with a degree in agriculture. While at Purdue, Moorman was a member of the Cadet Corps and attained the rank of captain. Following graduation, Moorman enlisted in the army at Camp Taylor, Kentucky May 15, 1918, and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant Aug. 26, 1918. After receiving training at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis, Moorman joined the 813 Pioneer Regiment, Infantry, which was sent to France as part of the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I. He participated in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive on the Western Front and was honorably discharged August 4, 1919. He lived in Kansas City, MO in 1920, working as a salesman for an auto company. Moorman returned to in Indianapolis, IN, working at Republic Coal and Coke Co. as a salesman and manager. In 1930, he was kidnapped and left tied to a fence in Nora, as his car was stolen; he released himself and found help. He was active in many clubs and was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Officers Reserve Corps of the United States Army.
