Biographical or historical data
Florence J. Martin was born 15 November 1876 in Jeffersonville, Indiana. She trained to be a nurse at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. Because of her experience and reputation as a nurse in Indianapolis she was appointed Chief Nurse of Lilly Base Hospital Number 32 in Contreville, France during the latter part of World War I. Her duties there ended in 1919. Upon returning to Indianapolis she took a job at Indianapolis Industrial Clinic where she worked until retirement at the age of eighty-four.
