- "The freshwater mussel population of the East Fork White River headwaters and tributaries in south and central Indiana was surveyed between 1990 and 1996 to determine species diversity, distribution and status in the watershed. Forty-four species of native freshwater mussels were represented at the 212 collection sites in the watershed. A total of 4,954 living specimens representing 34 species were recorded. The dominant species found in the study was Lampsilis siliquoidea (Barnes, 1823). This species was represented by 2,262 living specimens, 45.7% of the total number recorded. It was also the most widespread species, having been collected at 150 sites, 110 at which living specimens were recorded. A single living specimen of state-endangered Epioblasma triquetra (Rafinesque, 1820) was recorded during this study. No freshwater mussels, living or dead, were found at 31 of the 212 collection sites ... "--Abstract, p. 1
