- Biographical or historical data
- Emma Lou Thornbrough (1913-1994) was a teacher, scholar, and author. She graduated from Shortridge High School, Butler University, and the University of Michigan. From 1946-1983, Dr. Thornbrough was professor of history at Butler University. She was an authority on African-American history, as well as the history of Indiana in the Civil War. On January 22, 1995, Butler University held "A Celebration of the life of Emma Lou Thornbrough" in Robertson Hall with tributes from five people.
