This collection includes two partial copies of a speech given at The Old-Settlers meeting by Elijah Martindale in New Castle, Indiana ranging on 1871/08/10 regarding settling in Indiana, the War of 1812, and the Battle of Tippecanoe
Biographical or historical data
Elijah Martindale was born in Laurens, South Carolina to John and Mary Polly Martindale on 1793/11/10. His family moved from the south to Ohio in 1801, and then to Indiana in 1811. On 1815/10/12 he married Elizabeth Boyd and they had 15 children together. In 1818 Martindale was baptised by a Seventh Day Baptisit Missionary and devoted his life to the Christian Church where he became an eminent leader known as Elder Elijah Martindale. He died in 1874 and is buried by his wife in South Mound cemetery in New Castle, IN.
