Biographical or historical data
Edward J. Hecker was a teacher at the Indiana School for the Deaf in Indianapolis from 1888 to 1905. He married Hanna L. Humann in 1889 and they had four children. He also worked as a printer and part owner of Hecker Brothers Printing in Irvington, Indiana. He wrote a column of wit and verses for the Indianapolis News. He was active in Marion County Republican Party politics and was a founding member and officer of the Irvington Republican Club. He was appointed to the Advisory Board by the Mayor of Indianapolis in 1911. He was an unsuccessful candidate for the Indiana General Assembly in 1912 and 1916. He served as Warren Township, Marion County, Trustee from 1918 to 1926. He was the Indiana Deputy Secretary of State in 1925, 1927, and 1929.
