Summary
This collection contains correspondence, newspaper clippings, and other documents of Edith Silver ranging from 1939 to 1980. The collection includes a unique May 23, 1939 birth announcement from her sister, Gladys, that includes a blueprint of her sister's house in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and "announcing occupant of nursery, Richard Robertson Barr"; a newspaper clipping regarding her nephew (circa 1950s); copies of the May 11, 1944 and February 8, 1962 Arsenal Technical High School student newspaper The Arsenal Cannon; a letter and two certificates from the Indianapolis Education Association regarding her retirement (January 29, 1962); a letter and certificate from the Harrison National Life Insurance Company in recognition of her contribution to education (June, 1962); a letter from the Indiana State Teacher's retirement fund (circa 1962); and three personal & household budget books from the Samuel Ward MFG. Co. used by Miss Silver in 1967, 1978 (with a few notations from 1980), and 1979
Biographical or historical data
Edith Silver was born on November 11, 1896 at Zionsville, Indiana to Loury J. and Fay Silver. Her family moved to Indianapolis when she was a baby and she later attended Shortridge High School. She was a 1918 graduate of Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin and she taught mathematics at Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis for over 40 years before retiring in 1962.
