- Biographical or historical data
- Denkichi Shindo was born in Japan around 1884 and immigrated to the United States in 1900. He began working at the home of Indianapolis banker Staughton A. Fletcher in 1908 and by 1912 was working as a bartender at the University Club of Indianapolis. While there, he would create pencil sketches and water colors and the members of the club referred to him as "Dennie the artist." He later moved to California and completed his education at Stanford University. He moved back to Japan and obtained a position in the office of the counsel-general in Tokyo and continued to work as a professional artist. Sources:Ancestry.com. "Dennie Shindo."
