Biographical or historical data
John R. Eddy was a chaplain in the United States Army 72nd Indiana Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. John was killed at Hoover's Gap, Tennessee in June 1863. After John's death, his wife Sarah Nicholas Eddy applied for and received a widow's pension to support herself and their children after providing evidence of the couple's marriage (they married in 1855) and other documents to the United States Pension Agency.
